In 1999 a Parish Councillor, two teachers, a student and Play Group leader undertook an exploratory visit. We visited local schools, the football club, Kanafing Municipal Council and met a number of people from the Bakau Twinning committee. It was a real delight to be greeted with so much enthusiasm and warmth. At the visit we signed a formal "Linking Agreement" which formalised this relationship and made "special" the relationship between our two communities. In 2001 we were honoured to have the Alkalo, a local teacher, headteacher and hospital worker return the favour and visit us in Kings Langley.
Since then other individuals and small groups have returned and the Link has been taken forward. In 2003 one of the management Committee and his son visited Bakau and were invited to witness the Independence Day celebrations. This is an event rich in pageantry, colour and with masses of children who march past the Mayor. Below are two pictures from the event which help to capture something of the day.
